University Preparation Program

Intensive English
An intensive program designed for high school graduates, university students and professionals who are:

  • Planning to enter undergraduate or graduate degree programs at National University or another U.S. college or university
  • Preparing for the TOEFL or other examinations with an English language section
  • Improving their English skills for professional or career growth

Features

  • Practical, academic language and study skills with up to 25 hours of instruction per week
  • Small class sizes
  • Multimedia computer labs, Internet access and free e-mail
  • New classes begin every month
  • Prepares students to write research papers and give speeches
  • Completion of level 800 fulfills National University's language proficiency requirement (in lieu of TOEFL)
  • A joint I-20 is available to those who qualify for admission to National University degree program

Curriculum
This program provides 100 hours of instruction per month and includes the essentials: reading, writing, grammar, listening and speaking, as well as various electives.

Students in levels 1200 - 1500 build English communication skills while developing a strong foundation to successfully complete academic tasks.

Students in levels 1600 - 1800 focus on reading and discussion, research papers and other academic writing and advanced grammar, as well as public speaking and presentation skills. Additional electives enable students to pursue personal interests through classes such as Film, Vocabulary Development, Accent Reduction, Grammar Games, Popular Fiction, Current Affairs and American Culture.

Computer lab classes train students in Internet research skills and word processing, and feature software for grammar, reading, listening, pronunciation practice and test preparation. TOEFL preparation is available for students who plan to enter a community college or another university.
