On completion of a certificate program, students will have developed the ability to interact successfully in a variety of general communicative situations, to read short texts, and to deal generally with the languages in their most essential uses. The certificates are designed for professionals in government, military, and business who wish to increase their knowledge of the language, culture, history, and politics of the Middle East and/or China. The language standards of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) serve as a road map for delineating and developing appropriate content, philosophy, methods, and benchmarks for the program.
These certificate programs consists of three courses and are designed to be completed in 90 days: each course is self-paced and are typically completed in 30-days although content will be made available for review to the student for one month following completion of a particular course. Each course includes learning modules for instruction in language, culture, history, and politics. The modules are discrete components accessible for repeated review and practice, and are comprised of short streaming videos on culture, history, and language; interactive political and geography lessons; and entertaining language and culture quiz/games.
