Certificate in Chinese Culture and Language

The Certificate in Chinese Culture and Language consists of intermediate proficiency-oriented coursework in Chinese language acquisition, as well as instruction in essential knowledge and understanding of history, culture, geography, and politics of China. The program prepares students for a variety of career paths in government, military, business, and education.

CHN 100 - Beginning Chinese I (4.5 quarter units)

CHN 100A - Beginning Chinese I Lab (1.5 quarter units)
(Co-requisite: CHN 100)
Language content includes: Useful Phrases in Tourism, Business, Military and Government Operations, and the Chinese Alphabet. Culture content includes topics such as: Religion, Business Etiquette, Politics, Political Geography, and History.
CHN 101 - Beginning Chinese II (4.5 quarter units)
(Prerequisites: CHN 100, CHN 100A) (Co-requisite: CHI CHN A)
CHN 101A - Beginning Chinese II Lab (1.5 quarter units)
(Prerequisites: CHN 100, CHN 100A) (Co-requisite: CHN 101)
Language content includes: Basic Listening Comprehension, Grammar Basics, and Beginning Conversation. Culture content includes topics such as: Social Structure in the Chinese Culture, Chinese Music, Chinese Cuisine, Politics, and History.
